There’s a lot going on for Penny Branning and Vinny Panesar in upcoming EastEnders scenes, and while Vinny is busy planning a heartfelt surprise, Penny is quietly dealing with a secret that could change everything.
Things start off on a hopeful note as the couple prepare to attend their first baby scan together. It’s a big moment, and one they’ve both been looking forward to. But the day doesn’t quite go to plan when Vinny gets distracted by a call from a potential investor interested in Penny’s business idea.
Keen to make things work and secure funding, Vinny decides to meet the mystery backer, promising Penny he’ll catch up with her at the hospital afterwards. However, it’s clear he’s stepping into uncertain territory with the people he’s dealing with, something Priya Nandra-Hart is quick to point out after overhearing the conversation. She warns him to be careful about who he’s getting involved with, hinting that it might not be as straightforward as it sounds.
Meanwhile, Penny heads into the scan alone. What should be a special moment quickly becomes complicated when she’s told the baby is further along than expected. It’s information that immediately raises questions for her, but when Vinny eventually arrives, she keeps it to herself, choosing not to share what she’s just learned.
Instead, she carries on as normal, even as the weight of the situation starts to sink in.
Later on, Vinny makes a change of heart when it comes to the business deal, deciding to take a safer route to funding rather than risking anything dodgy. It’s a sensible move, but it comes at a time when Penny is already feeling overwhelmed.
Opening up to Lauren and Oscar Branning, Penny finally admits what’s really been on her mind. If the scan is accurate, then the timing doesn’t add up, and there’s a chance Vinny might not be the father after all.
She admits that she slept with Harry around the time he entered rehab, though she’s still hoping there’s been some kind of mistake with the dates.
Even so, it’s a huge secret to carry, especially with Vinny completely in the dark.
As tensions build, Penny also finds herself clashing with Suki Panesar over Vinny’s efforts to sort out the business. It all gets a bit heated, with Nicola Mitchell stepping in to calm things down and offer Penny some support.
Trying to clear her head, Penny heads to Harry’s barn with Nicola, but things only get more complicated from there.
At the same time, Vinny is still focused on doing something positive for their future. Wanting to show his commitment, he pulls off a big gesture, surprising Penny with a lease for a new premises for her shop, complete with the deposit and six months rent already paid.
It’s a huge moment, and one that should be exciting for them both. But with everything Penny now knows, it’s far from straightforward.

Elsewhere, Harry opens up to Nicola, revealing that he and Penny were intimate last year, something that immediately raises alarm bells for her. Already suspicious of Penny’s behaviour, Nicola starts to piece things together.
Before long, she confronts Penny and lays things out plainly, insisting she take a DNA test. If she doesn’t, Nicola makes it clear she’ll tell both Vinny and Harry herself.
With the pressure mounting, Penny turns back to Lauren and Oscar for advice before facing Nicola again. But their confrontation takes an unexpected turn when Nicola is suddenly hit with waves of pain.
Despite Harry urging her to go to the hospital, Nicola refuses and instead heads home to rest, leaving everything hanging in the balance.
Penny is stuck between protecting the truth and risking everything, just as Vinny is doing all he can to build a future for them both while being completely in the dark.
