How many enemies does scheming cuckoo-in-the-nest Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) have on Coronation Street? The answer is one more. Bad luck, Bethany Platt (Mia Cookson). You just made the list…
Revenge is Jodie’s whole vibe. The nefarious newcomer has got her feet well and truly under the table in the Platt household, with the sinister goal of destroying the life of her estranged sibling Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) life by stealing her family. Why? Two words – traumatic backstory.
Because teen mum Shona escaped their toxic household, Jodie blames her half-sister for abandoning her to their abusive father Doug (Steve Evetts). That’s why she’s been cosying up to Shona’s husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and pouring poison in the ear of their daughter Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardiner). It’s all part of a decades long grudge.
It doesn’t take much to wind up in this bunny-boiler’s bad books. Not only did she stick her dad in a psychiatric ward, Jodie has crossed swords with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) simply for lecturing her about letting David the dog poo in the street.
We don’t even know what Jodie’s got against the Queen of Roy’s Rolls Bernie Winter (Jane Hazelgrove). Given that the twisted Ramsey sister broke into her house just to steal her wedding photo and add it to her mysterious box of trinkets, it’s probably a tad more serious than not bagging up her dog’s dirty business.
Now Jodie’s found a new foe – David’s niece, Bethany Platt.
Bethany has been suspicious of Jodie ever since she miraculously ‘found’ Shona’s lost wedding ring at home, despite Shona being adamant that it was lost in the Salon. This was in fact, another ploy to win David’s favour by playing the hero, which Bethany was very close to figuring out, claiming in a private conversation with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) that the ‘jury was out’ when it comes to Jodie.
Bethany may get a verdict sooner than she thinks, in upcoming scenes of Coronation Street where she finds herself in the sights of Weatherfield’s latest psycho.
Excited Bethany shows Jodie a picture of a guy she’s met online called Ethan and reveals that they’ve arranged a date. The next thing she knows, Ethan stands her up and had the gall to accuse her of cancelling the date. As Bethany cries on her shoulder, Jodie feigns sympathy. Did she have something to do with this?
Whatever the case, it’s enough to reignite Bethany’s suspicions when she casually quizzes childminding credentials and if he ran any background check.
Later in the Kabin, we’re worried that Bethany is playing with fire when she suggests to Jodie that they meet up for a drink.
Will Bethany untangle Jodie’s web of lies… or find herself stuck in it?
