Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has now officially overtaken 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as the highest-grossing domestic release of all time at the box-office.

The Tom Holland-led film has pushed the first of the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy off the top spot after taking in $936.773 million across 47 days in theaters.

Questions now arise as to whether the film has enough momentum behind it to reach the $1 billion domestic box office mark – that seems unlikely at this point.

Worldwide, the title has reached a stunning $2.45 billion – the third-highest-grossing movie of all time behind only “Avatar” ($2.9 billion) and “Avengers: Endgame” ($2.7 billion).

It has smashed plenty of records along the way, including domestically being the fastest film to reach $700 million (13 days), $800 million (19 days) and $900 million (36 days).

Sony is expected to top the box-office this weekend with the new
“Resident Evil” film, which is drawing rave reviews. Marvel and Disney meanwhile have “Avengers: Doomsday” coming up in December.
