Jon Hamm Interviews a Potential Murderer in Intense TV Show American Hostage Trailer

MGM+ has released the trailer for American Hostage, an upcoming series starring Jon Hamm. It is a true-crime thriller anthology based on the critically acclaimed podcast of the same name.

The eight-episode first season of American Hostage premieres on MGM+ on Sunday, September 20. The show will debut with the first two episodes together, followed by weekly releases every Sunday. The season finale arrives on Sunday, November 1.

Created by Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, American Hostage is based on the first season of the scripted podcast of the same name. It is a psychological thriller inspired by the infamous 1970s hostage case involving Tony Kiritsis in Indianapolis.

What happens in the American Hostage trailer?

The trailer introduces viewers to Fred Heckman, a radio reporter in Indianapolis who finds himself at the center of a brutal hostage situation when Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his radio show. Kiritsis threatens to kill his hostage if Heckman does not comply.

The video features a montage of nail-biting scenes showing Heckman’s newsroom team trying to contain the situation while authorities close in on Kiritsis. The gripping trailer ends with Heckman telling Kiritsis over the phone, “Respectfully, I’m the lead reporter on this story.” In a chilling reply, Kiritsis says from the other end of the line, “Fred, you are the story.”

American Hostage stars Jon Hamm as Fred Heckman and Giovanni Ribisi as Tony Kiritsis. Other cast members include Kristoffer Polaha as Dick Hall, William Jackson Harper as Ben Hairston, Mireille Enos as Barbara Heckman, Jonathan Tucker as FBI Special Agent Cormac McNally, and Kat Cunning as Ibby Hall.

Hamm also serves as an executive producer alongside Shawn Ryan, Eileen Myers, Sharon Hoffman, Connie Tavel, Marney Hochman, and Shawn Christensen.
