Iconic A Christmas Story Star Tedde Moore Passes Away

Tedde Moore has passed away. The Canadian actress was best known for playing Miss Shields in the 1983 holiday classic, A Christmas Story. She was active in the film and television industry for over five decades.

Moore’s family announced she died on August 5, 2026, in a post on her Facebook page. “On Wednesday, August 5th under sunny skies overlooking Fairy Lake, Tedde passed away surrounded by family physically and spiritually in her beloved Huntsville Muskoka,” reads the post. An image of Moore in the snow accompanied the news.

Moore was born Dorothea Mavor Moore in 1947, and started her career in entertainment by appearing in an episode of Encounter in 1961. She was born into a family already seeped in the entertainment business. Her father, Mavor Moore, was well known for contributing heavily to theater, while her grandmother, Dora Mavor Moore, was an accomplished Canadian theater actress.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, Moore starred opposite Christopher Walken in a stage production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Following this, she appeared in several films and shows, eventually going on to play Miss Shields in A Christmas Story. She reprised the role in its 1994 sequel, My Summer Story.

Since starting her career in the early 1960s, she has appeared in films like Rip-Off, Second Wind, Gotti, Focus, and more. She also appeared in entries of iconic franchises, including Friday the 13th: The Series, RoboCop: Prime Directives, and shows like PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, Rolie Polie Olie, The Kennedys, and others.

Moore is survived by her children, Suzanna and Noah Shebib, and two other children. She was married to Canadian film director Donald Shebib from 1976 until he died in 2023.
