Brad Pitt has opened up about his sobriety and finally breaking it after a seven-year streak. In a recent interview with Esquire, the actor shared that he enjoys wine on some occasions but in very small quantities.

At one point during the interview, Esquire’s Ryan D’Agostino asked Pitt if the wine he offered him earlier was for guests only. The actor confessed that after a seven-year sobriety, he has begun to indulge sometimes.

“No, I got—I was sober for seven years,” Pitt said. “And then I got back off the wagon,” the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood actor admitted. Pitt went on to explain that although he sometimes likes to enjoy a glass of wine, he continues to keep his intake in check.

“In a more restrained manner,” Pitt shared. “I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me. Not in big quantities.” The actor said that he “can’t have a lot,” adding, “I have to be professional about it.”

Brad Pitt credits Bradley Cooper with helping him stay sober

Brad Pitt had previously credited Bradley Cooper for helping him get sober. He thanked the fellow actor during his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala.

“I got sober because of this guy and every day has been happier ever since,” Pitt said of Cooper at the time, who presented him with the award.

Pitt had also discussed his sobriety journey with Dax Shepard in a June 2025 appearance on the latter’s Armchair Expert podcast. The actor recalled his visits to Alcoholics Anonymous, saying, “It was just incredible. Men sharing their experiences, their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches and a lot of humor with it.”

Pitt added, “I was pretty much on my knees, and I was really open,” he recalled. “I was trying anything, anything anyone threw at me. It was a difficult time. I needed rebooting. I needed to wake the f–k up in some areas. And it just meant a lot to me. Everyone was so open.”

Meanwhile, fans are excited to see Brad Pitt reprise his role as Cliff Booth in the upcoming sequel to Tarantino’s OUATIH, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher. The movie arrives in IMAX on November 25, 2026.
