Kendrick Lamar emerges as big winner at BET Awards 2025

Kendrick Lamar dominated the 2025 BET Awards on Monday night, emerging as the top winner with five major honors. Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Kevin Hart, the star-studded ceremony marked the 25th anniversary of the awards show, celebrating the best in Black entertainment.

Lamar’s acclaimed album GNX won Album of the Year, beating tough competition including Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, Chris Brown’s 11:11 Deluxe, and Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal. He also took home Best Male Hip-Hop Artist for a record eighth time, Video of the Year for Not Like Us, and Best Collaboration for Luther with SZA. Additionally, Lamar shared the Video Director of the Year award with longtime creative partner Dave Free.

Accepting one of his awards, Lamar said, “BET has always made sure they’re representing the culture right and always put me in the midst of the cycle of what we represent.” (via Billboard)

Leading into the night, Lamar topped the nominations with ten nods. He was followed by Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla with six each. Metro Boomin scored five nominations, while both SZA and The Weeknd earned four.

In other major wins, SZA and Chris Brown were named Best Female and Male R&B/Pop artists, respectively. Meanwhile, Doechii claimed Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. Actor Denzel Washington and actress Cynthia Erivo also took home top honors. 

A special highlight of the evening was the Ultimate Icon Award, presented to Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, and Snoop Dogg for their influence on Black culture.
