He is, after all, responsible for the all-time classics Blade Runner and Alien. However, Scott has mostly stayed away from the genre since he outdid himself about a decade ago with the highest‑grossing film of his career. The movie in question recently witnessed a surge on home video platforms, perhaps because its spiritual successor is doing gangbusters in theaters. This past week saw the release of Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and starring Ryan Gosling. The film made $140 million worldwide in its opening weekend, exceeding the debut haul of Scott's film, which was released in 2015.
