X-Men ’97: Marvel Has a Vision for Beloved TV Show’s Ideal Number of Seasons

Ahead of its Season 2, Marvel’s X-Men ’97 TV show has received a massive update on its future. The upcoming new chapter of the popular Disney+ TV series will bring back fan-favorite characters such as Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue, and more.

How many seasons does Marvel want X-Men ’97 to run for?

It is already known that X-Men ’97 will continue beyond Season 2. A third season has been renewed already, but Marvel Television’s team wants to stretch the show even more.

In an interaction with Screenrant, Marvel Television’s Brad Winderbaum said that he’s hoping for X-Men ’97 to match the original TV show’s total number of seasons.

Back in the early to mid-90s, X-Men: The Animated Series ran for five seasons. Winderbaum hopes the current series reaches the same milestone. “I hope it runs at least 5 seasons, because that’s as many seasons as the original series, so that would be really, that’d be really nice.”

The reason why Winderbaum believes X-Men ’97 has the potential to continue running in the future is pretty obvious. After the revival of the original series with a new version, the show has gained significant popularity. It becomes evident from the amazing reception of the first season, which was released two years ago.

X-Men ’97 Season 1 currently holds a spectacular Tomatometer score of 99% and a fantastic Popcornmeter score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ahead of its official premiere, Season 2 has already received a phenomenal response from critics. It currently holds a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of this article’s publication.

X-Men ’97 Season 2 is set to arrive on Disney+ on July 1, 2026. It will feature nine episodes and will see the beloved heroes fighting Apocalypse across different eras.
