X-Files’ Gillian Anderson Reveals Verdict on Ryan Coogler’s Reboot Script

After nearly a decade of waiting, the truth is still out there and, according to Gillian Anderson, it’s in very good hands. The actress, who famously played the skeptical FBI agent Dana Scully for nine seasons and two revival runs, has read the script for Ryan Coogler’s upcoming X-Files reboot. She’s giving fans a reason to believe.

Gillian Anderson said she read the script recently and came away impressed. She addressed skepticism head-on, acknowledging that fans may feel protective of the original. “I was in Washington at a con last weekend, and I told the crowd that I’d read the script, and it was really good, and to not think disparagingly about it,” Anderson said. “It’s very different and very similar all at the same time, and it’s very special” (via Collider).

She credited Ryan Coogler’s familiarity with the source material as a key reason for her confidence. The Sinners and Black Panther director is spearheading the X-Files reboot for Hulu. Original series creator Chris Carter is attached as an executive producer.

“I think he’s incredibly talented, and I think he’s one of the only people who can do something unique and do it justice, and he’s completely obsessed with the series,” Anderson said. “He’s one of the most talented filmmakers who’s out there. The fact that Chris has him as the person who’s going to be involved in the franchise is awesome, and a huge gift. You guys will see what he has in mind, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.”

Gillian Anderson has said she is open to appearing in the new series. David Duchovny has also expressed interest, though no deals have been announced. Hulu has already given the X-Files reboot a pilot order. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel will star as two FBI agents assigned to the agency’s reopened paranormal investigations unit.

The series does not yet have a release date.
