Monster showrunner Ian Brennan just dropped some major hints about which killer could headline the anthology’s next season. The creator revealed the infamous names he and Ryan Murphy are actively considering for future installments.

Ian Brennan recently spoke to PEOPLE about potential subjects for future seasons of Netflix’s Monster anthology series. The showrunner named several notorious figures he and co-creator Ryan Murphy have discussed. Among them are BTK killer Dennis Rader, Ted Bundy, Green River Killer Gary Ridgway, and Luigi Mangione.

“God, there’s so many,” Brennan told PEOPLE. “We’ve talked about BTK (Dennis Rader). [He] is a fascinating one… Ted Bundy, Green River Killer… We’ve toyed with Luigi Mangione, who is fascinating.”

Rader pleaded guilty to 10 murders in 2005 and received multiple life sentences. Bundy confessed to dozens of killings before his 1989 execution. Ridgway pleaded guilty to 49 murders. Mangione pleaded guilty in federal court in August 2026 to two stalking charges resulting in death.

However, Brennan acknowledged the difficulty of selecting the right subject for a full season. He explained that most murderers simply lack the depth needed to sustain a long narrative.

“Most murderers just aren’t that interesting. It’s horrific, and you don’t want to watch it,” he said. “Finding a subject matter that you can spend 10 hours with” remains the biggest challenge.

Brennan also stressed that he and Murphy must both feel passionate about the chosen subject. Finding that mutual agreement adds another layer of complexity to the process.

“That’s the most curious part of this process is trying to land on something that Ryan and I both find worth the effort and worth the time,” Brennan explained. He added that very few stories truly fit the anthology format.

The latest season, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, premiered Thursday, September 17 on Netflix. It marks the first season to explore multiple subjects. Ella Beatty stars as Borden alongside Vicky Krieps as Countess Elizabeth Báthory and Sarah Paulson as Aileen Wuornos.
