In Dark Winds season 3, episode 7, Emma lied to Agent Washington and covered for Joe regarding where he was on the night of B.J. Vines' murder. It was somewhat surprising, considering how furious she's been with Joe and how conflicted she's been since learning the truth about what her husband did to B.J. Vines. Emma Leaphorn's story has regressed in Dark Winds season 3, with her barely being in the first handful of episodes and then unwittingly becoming an accomplice to Joe's crime.
