Ransom Canyon’s tribute to Lori Romero explained
At the end of Ransom Canyon Season 1, a title card appears reading, “In loving memory of Lori Romero.”
Romero was a hairstylist and makeup artist from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She worked on the series and passed away on January 1, 2025.
According to her obituary in the Albuquerque Journal, Lori Suzette Romero was born on August 10, 1963, and spent her life in Albuquerque. The obituary states, “Lori’s talent and specialization in high quality make-up and hair helped create her career with the movie industry. Her film family were a very important part of her life.”
It also describes her as having “the biggest heart,” someone who “was everyone’s best friend and was willing to step in to help anyone who needed assistance. Her laugh was infectious; when she laughed, everyone else did too.”
Romero entered the film industry in 2016. She earned her first credit as a makeup artist on Dead Billy. She later styled hair and makeup for The Harder They Fall (2021), Just Getting Started (2017), Finch (2021), Opus, and Killer Vacation. Her final credit names her as a makeup artist on Coyote vs. Acme, set for release in 2026. Most of these projects filmed in Albuquerque.
Romero’s relative, Daniel James Chavez, wrote on Instagram, “She was very dedicated and passionate to her trade working as a Hair and Makeup Artist on film set.” The family held a memorial service for Romero on January 18, 2025, in Albuquerque. Her son Julian Anzures and extended relatives survive her.
Ransom Canyon, released on Netflix on April 17, 2025, includes this tribute to honor Romero’s contributions to the production.
