Monique Makani first started exploring basketball in her school in France, where she moved to, from her birthplace of Cameroon, when she was just 9 years old. She joined the French professional basketball club, ASVEL Féminin, back in 2018, and was promoted to ASVEL’s first team towards the end of the 2018–19 season. Over the course of 4 games, she averaged 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists. Her game appearances increased to 10 and 21 for the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 seasons.
After a 3-year tenure with ASVEL Féminin, Monique joined CSP Nantes Basket for a brief tenure. After playing 19 games for them, she shifted to Charnay Basket Bourgogne Sud in 2022–23.
