Tyrese Haliburton Funds Iowa State Student Tickets for Pacers Preseason Return

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton has purchased the entire student section for his team’s preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026. The gesture ensures that Iowa State University students can attend the “homecoming” exhibition free of charge as Haliburton makes his first competitive appearance in 16 months.

The game marks the first NBA exhibition held at Hilton Coliseum since 2018. Haliburton specifically requested that the Pacers organization arrange a game in Ames, the site of his collegiate career, to coincide with his return to the court.

The game marks Haliburton's first competitive appearance after a 16-month rehabilitation process.

The matchup serves as a significant milestone in Haliburton’s recovery. He missed the entire 2025-26 NBA season after suffering a torn Achilles during Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. This return to action in Iowa follows a lengthy rehabilitation process, placing his first minutes of professional play since the injury in front of his former college fan base.

To manage the high demand for the tickets Haliburton provided, Iowa State Athletics utilized a lottery system for distribution. The student section is expected to observe a “Gold Out” theme, a nod to the traditional atmosphere of the venue during major collegiate games.

While the Pacers are the designated home team for this event, the Minnesota Timberwolves bring their own regional ties to the matchup. Minnesota’s G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves, plays in nearby Des Moines, often drawing fans from across the state.

Historically, NBA games at Hilton Coliseum are rare. This contest is only the fourth of its kind in the arena’s history, following previous preseason appearances in 1991, 1999, and 2018. For Haliburton, who rose to prominence as an All-Big 12 selection at Iowa State before becoming a two-time NBA All-Star, the event functions as both a personal milestone and a philanthropic gift to the university community.
