Fans have raved about a ‘really underrated’ gem of a TV show, insisting that it ‘should not be as good as it is’.

Action comedy Twisted Metal first premiered in 2023, starring Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Will Arnett, and Thomas Haden Church.

The series, based on the Twisted Metal video game, follows outsider John Doe (Anthony), who is tasked with delivering a mysterious package across the US for the opportunity of a better life.

He teams up with ‘axe-wielding car thief’ Quiet (Stephanie) for the journey, where the pair face ‘savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road’.

Twisted Metal airs on Peacock in the US, with both full seasons currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in the UK through the Paramount+ channel.

Flocking to Reddit, viewers heaped praise on the adaptation, begging for it to be ‘recognized more’.

In a post from UltimateGamingTechie, they said: ‘It’s gory, funny and the characters are lovable. A complete blast to watch from the beginning to end.

‘I haven’t played any of the games but if I were to rank it based on how entertaining it is, it’s up there with Fallout for the best video game adaptation we’ve got so far.

‘You really should watch it! Sweet Tooth is one of the most incredible characters I’ve seen on TV. Honestly, I think you should watch the show just for him. But the rest of the show is good too. Really good.’

Many agreed with their take in the comments below, as x_lincoln_x replied: ‘Twisted Metal should not have been as good as it is. Damn good show. Sweet Tooth is my favorite followed by Vermin. She knocked it out of the park this last season.’

Marccoogs said: ‘They took a game that was about nothing but cars blowing each other up and made a fun series with fun and likable characters.’

‘It is a very silly show and the world needs that right now. It has no right being as good as it is. It’s like everyone understands the task at hand,’ Bearded_Pip posted.

Hironymus commented: ‘The show is trash and S-tier at the same time. I just love it. Lets hope there is an S3.’

‘I love how silly and fun it is. Just totally indulgent action, over the top dialog, and it never overstays it’s welcome,’ MaritimeStar added.

‘It’s like other posters say, everyone involved clearly knows what they’re supposed to be making and they’re having a ball doing it. Anthony Mackie is really, really funny and likeable in it too.’

Twisted Metal first premiered in July 2023, with a second season arriving on Peacock and Paramount+ just a few weeks ago.

We’re still waiting for any details of a third series but it’s clear that fans are desperate for more from John Doe and co.

Showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith recently opened up about exploring more of the post-apocalyptic universe in a chat with ScreenRant, teasing what new episodes could entail.

‘I think now we’re looking into what season three looks like and I think episode 12, which I’m really happy with, I love where episode 12 ends,’ he said. ‘That is totally setting up.

‘Look, I want there to be a lot of discussion about where we end 12, and what does that mean for next season with the war and with John and Mayhem and Minion and Quiet and where we’re setting everything up going into next season.

‘I think there’s a lot to pay off. I think there’s a lot to play with. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun. I think we’ve got some cars to find.’

Twisted Metal is available to stream on Peacock in the US, and Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video in the UK now.
