Toy Story 5 is tracking for the biggest opening in franchise history. Early projections point to another huge win for Pixar next summer. More than three decades after Woody and Buzz first arrived on screens, the beloved franchise is ready for another massive box office run. Industry forecasts suggest the fifth movie could set new records for the franchise while continuing an already strong year for theaters.
Toy Story 5 box office predicted to break franchise opening records
Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is currently expected to open with around $140 million domestically from 4,425 theaters. Worldwide, estimates place the debut near $275 million, which would give the film the biggest launch ever for the Toy Story series. International markets are projected to contribute roughly $135 million (via Deadline).
If those numbers hold, Toy Story 5 would comfortably surpass every previous entry. The original 1995 film opened to $29 million in North America. Toy Story 2 started with nearly $80 million, while Toy Story 3 earned $110 million during its debut weekend. Toy Story 4 currently owns the series record with $120 million.
This time, the spotlight shifts toward Jessie. Andrew Stanton directs the movie, marking his first Toy Story feature after previously helming Finding Nemo, WALL-E and Finding Dory. Reviews have also started strongly, with the film earning a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The franchise began in 1995 and now includes five main movies. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen remain the faces of the series as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Over the years, the films have become some of Pixar’s biggest successes and have consistently earned strong audience reactions.
Every installment received an A CinemaScore except Toy Story 2, which scored an A+. Pre-sales have already climbed to about $25 million. While they trail Moana 2 at the same stage, they are running ahead of several recent animated releases.
With premium screens, strong reviews and decades of goodwill behind it, Toy Story 5 is no doubt one of the biggest theatrical events of 2026.
