Tom Holland Has Pitched Epic Spider-Man & Kraven Comic Book Moment for 10 Years

Tom Holland has revealed that he has been trying to bring a particular Spider-Man and Kraven moment from the comics to the big screen for more than a decade. The scene comes from Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s Ultimate Spider-Man and involves an unexpected confrontation between the two characters. Holland recently explained why the moment has remained one of his favorite scenes from the comics.

Tom Holland has revealed the specific Ultimate Spider-Man scene he has wanted to see adapted for the big screen for more than 10 years. The scene comes from Issue #21 and involves Spider-Man encountering Kraven while heading to face Doctor Octopus. The confrontation ends when Spider-Man knocks Kraven down with one punch, a moment Holland has repeatedly tried to bring into his Spider-Man movies.

Holland discussed the scene while speaking to Marvel about his favorite Spider-Man comics. He recalled discovering the issue before the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming and said the scene immediately stayed with him.

The actor said, “My favourite moment — and I tried to get it into this movie, Destin, and you’ll remember this — is in Ultimate Spider-Man. He is on his way to fight Doc Ock, and Kraven shows up and kind of throws a bit of a spanner in the works” (via Bleeding Cool News).

The actor added, “And you think as you’re reading it, they’re like, oh, there’s about to be this, like, massive action sequence between Spider-Man and Kraven. And it completely, like, undercuts the tension, because Spider-Man just punches him once and essentially, like, buries him in the ground.”

Holland said the idea has remained one of his favorite moments from the comics. “And I just remember reading that before the first movie, before Homecoming. And I’ve been pitching that idea for over a decade. I just, I always loved that moment.”

Destin Daniel Cretton was also familiar with Holland’s pitch, although he did not realize how long the actor had been suggesting it. “That’s hilarious, because when you pitched that to me, it was like you pitched it as if you came up with the idea last night. I didn’t know you’d been sitting on it.”
