After a rather solid debut over a month ago, the Marvel superhero movie Thunderbolts* has struggled to stay afloat at the box office. The team-up movie, which was accompanied by an inventive marketing strategy and boosted by strong reviews, is poised to conclude its theatrical run with under $400 million worldwide and $200 million at the domestic box office. Even its largely disappointing Marvel predecessor, Captain America: Brave New World, managed to cross both these milestones. For context, Thunderbolts* will conclude its run with around half of what another superhero movie earned over a decade ago. And back then, the movie in question was seen as an underperformer as well.
