It takes an expertly made horror movie to be able to capture one of the scariest things anyone could ever experience: war. These movies that use the battlefield for more than just set dressing, that manage to merge their unique sources of fear with the inherent terror that is surviving in a setting where hundreds of others mean to kill you. From A Field in England to Jacob's Ladder, it takes a carefully crafted project to capitalize on this concept and add its own layer of dread to it — like Alberto Vázquez's Unicorn Wars. This animated feature genuinely understands the horrors of war, using them to tell a story of interpersonal anguish and investigate the political intrigue that causes such large-scale conflict to happen...all while just so happening to be about a bunch of unicorns and teddy bears.
