The Vvaan has managed to spring a surprise at the box office. The Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer, which arrived in theatres on Friday, opened to numbers that were considerably stronger than its pre-release momentum had suggested. Despite modest advance bookings and relatively little conversation around the film before its release, The Vvaan has recorded a respectable opening day.
According to Sacnilk, the film collected approximately Rs 8 crore nett on Friday. While that figure does not put The Vvaan among the year's biggest openers, it is a noteworthy start for a non-franchise film in a theatrical market that has largely been driven by established properties and returning characters.
The film reportedly recorded occupancy in the 25-35 per cent range across several major centres, including Mumbai, Delhi, Surat, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Lucknow. The numbers suggest that The Vvaan was able to generate a degree of walk-in interest despite the absence of a major advance-booking wave.
The Vvaan falls just short of Alpha and O'Romeo
The Rs 8 crore opening puts The Vvaan in the vicinity of some of the year's more notable Hindi openers. However, it has narrowly missed out on surpassing the first-day figures of films such as Alpha and O'Romeo.
Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, opened at Rs 9.25 crore nett, while O'Romeo registered Rs 8.5 crore nett on its first day. With its Rs 8 crore haul, The Vvaan currently occupies the 12th spot among the highest opening day grossers of 2026.
The positioning is significant considering the film did not arrive with the built-in audience of a major franchise. The Hindi box office has seen several franchise titles command substantial openings this year, making the performance of an original property like The Vvaan particularly interesting.
The bigger question now is whether the film can convert its decent Friday into a stronger weekend. A substantial jump on Saturday and Sunday would give the film the momentum it needs to establish itself as a theatrical success rather than merely having a respectable opening.
Can The Vvaan sustain its momentum?
The film's reported budget of around Rs 80 crore means there is still considerable ground to cover. The opening day alone represents only a fraction of that investment, and its performance over the next few days will be crucial in determining its eventual theatrical prospects.
The Vvaan also has a limited window to maximise its collections. The arrival of Drishyam: The Conclusion next week is expected to bring significant competition for screens and audience attention. The film therefore needs to make the most of its first weekend and the weekdays that follow.
A strong weekend could alter the conversation around the film, particularly after its relatively subdued promotional phase. If Saturday and Sunday witness a significant increase in occupancy, The Vvaan could potentially build on the curiosity generated by its opening. On the other hand, a limited weekend jump could make the road to recovering its reported budget considerably more difficult.
Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and jointly produced by TVF, Balaji Telefilms and 11:11 Entertainment, The Vvaan features an ensemble cast that includes Sunil Grover, Anup Soni, Maniesh Paul and Shweta Tiwari alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia.
For now, the film has delivered a stronger opening than its advance sales and pre-release buzz indicated. The weekend will determine whether that surprise develops into sustained box office momentum.
