The Social Network, which follows Mark Zuckerberg as he creates Facebook and famously makes a few enemies in the process, was a massive success by every metric. Not only did it gross $225 million on a budget of just $40 million, but it also received eight Oscar nominations, stands at an impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was even preserved by the Library of Congress in 2024. Expectations were high when it was announced that Aaron Sorkin would be making a follow-up entitled The Social Reckoning, but so was skepticism. Could a sequel possibly recreate the magic of the first movie, especially without Jesse Eisenberg? And would Sorkin be able to justify its existence at all?
