Selman revealed that the long-running animated series will not shift toward covering immediate political controversies, noting, “It’s not our mission statement to respond to the crisis of the moment. It’s more about a town of good-natured dum-dums dealing with a changing world.” He explained that the series works months in advance, unlike other shows such as South Park, which can produce episodes within a week.

The Season 37 premiere, “Thrifty Ways to Thieve Your Mother,” aired on Fox. It focused on Marge revisiting her love of a ’90s teen drama. Lisa, meanwhile, experimented with thrift-store fashion alongside classmates voiced by Cole Escola and Stephanie Hsu.

Homer became engrossed in a Reacher-like series, while the family skipped the movies and waited for streaming. Selman explained that originality in the show often comes from real-life trends. He pointed to thrifting, nostalgia, and “dad TV” as key inspirations.

Upcoming episodes will spotlight Springfield residents. Superintendent Chalmers will dive into the world of online skincare influencers. Bart will take a job with Professor Frink in a satire of billionaire tech culture. Other stories will feature a Quimby family backstory. The annual Treehouse of Horror will include segments that blend Jaws, The Blob, and a plastic-based apocalypse.

When asked about the 800th episode, Selman offered a rare tease. “It’s in February. That I can tease. I’ll say this: It involves the dog. That’s a big tease. How about this, I’ll give you a little more: The dog gets fat.” The episode will center on the family’s beloved pet, Santa’s Little Helper, marking a milestone for the series.
