IMAX tickets for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” went online this morning and already ‘movie profiteers’, aka scalpers, have struck and struck hard.
Pre-sales went slightly off course this morning, with not just wait times lasting for hours, but crashes in some cases, with AMC, Fandango, and Regal all impacted initially but seem to be working again.
As of this evening though, the scalpers have now flooded the market as well with tickets on eBay for some screenings going for several hundred dollars – in one case, up to $1,500 U.S. dollars for one IMAX 70mm showing.
The film was shot entirely with IMAX cameras, making it one of the most ambitious projects of his career but also being pushed as the best way to see the film.
That’s combined with the fact that more regular non-IMAX tickets for the movie don’t go on sale until later, it has created a frenzy for the IMAX tickets for the movie, which doesn’t open for another six weeks.
Meanwhile, the official site for the film has been updated to include the movie’s trailer made available in all the different aspect ratios the film will be available in. You can watch the trailer and adjust it on the fly to show which parts of the frame will be presented – from the IMAX 70mm 1.43:1 and regular 1.9:1 IMAX, to the 1.85 of Dolby Cinema, 2.2:1 of 70mm and 2.39:1 of 35mm.
“The Odyssey” is set to open in cinemas on July 17th.
