Despite being dubbed “The King of Horror,” Stephen Kingis an author with a diverse set of interests. It's just that his more supernatural, horrific, and high-concept stories tend to be very popular. Although his capacity for creative worldbuilding is nearly unparalleled, the reason King’s work has resonated with readers for over half a century is that he tells relatable stories about characters that face overwhelming feelings, such as fear, grief, regret, and ambition. Although he has already directed movie adaptations of Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, Mike Flanagan takes on a different kind of King adaptation with The Life of Chuck, which is sentimental without being saccharine.
