Curious about how The End of Oak Street’s ending explains Flowervale’s terrifying journey to prehistoric times? The film delivers a heartbreaking sacrifice, clever time travel, and a subtle twist that raises unsettling questions about duplicates.

Here is The End of Oak Street ending explained, covering the time travel mechanics and who survives.

How did all of Oak Street time travel at the end?

The End of Oak Street features a neighborhood called Flowervale that travels back to prehistoric times. Small tremors begin appearing in the days before the main event occurs. Brian, the Platt family’s son, first notices strange flashes of lightning in the sky. His family initially brushes these off as part of a strong storm.

The tremors grow progressively larger and create portals to millions of years ago. Small prehistoric plants also begin growing at rapid rates in neighborhood gardens. Eventually, one massive tremor sucks the entire Flowervale neighborhood into the distant past. Director David Robert Mitchell intentionally avoids explaining every detail of the phenomenon. The film never explicitly states what caused the wormholes to appear initially.

Does Greg or the dog die in The End of Oak Street?

Greg sacrifices his life to save his family during a terrifying dinosaur attack. An Allosaurus devours him in front of Denise and the children during the ordeal. The children had earlier left home to find their missing dog, Starbuck. The life-threatening situation also sparks a heartfelt reconciliation between Greg and Denise beforehand.

Denise and the kids eventually discover a small wormhole still active nearby. They also pick up newly orphaned Jeannette, who lives down the street from them. The group leaps from a rooftop into the wormhole and travels back in time. They land in 1982, roughly twenty minutes before the event transports Flowervale.

Denise acts quickly and orders a pizza, knowing Greg secretly delivers pizzas. This clever move ensures Greg drives away from Flowervale before the event strikes. She also calls neighbors to warn them, saving the librarian and others nearby. Jeannette bolts away to successfully warn her own parents before the event hits.

The family dog Starbuck also survives after fighting dinosaurs during the prehistoric ordeal. Starbuck makes it back to present day alongside the entire Platt family safely. The film ends with the Platts hosting a neighborhood barbecue together. However, a subtle twist reveals two versions of Jeannette now exist in this timeline.
