Netflix has released the teaser trailer for The Diplomat Season 3, the critically acclaimed political drama starring Emmy nominee Keri Russell as Kate Wyler.

The Diplomat Season 3 picks up after Kate accuses Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of devising a terrorist plot. Kate’s admission that she wants Penn’s job makes matters more awkward.

The Diplomat Season 3 teaser trailer previews Bradley Whitford’s arrival as Penn’s husband, First Gentleman Todd Penn. The footage highlights a tense showdown between Kate, Grace, Todd, and Kate’s husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell).

“The president is dead, Kate’s husband Hal may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency,” the Netflix synopsis reads. “Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn.”

The Diplomat’s cast also stars David Gyasi as British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, Ali Ahn as CIA Station Chief Eidra Park, Ato Essandoh as Deputy Chief of Mission Stuart Hayford, and Rory Kinnear as British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge.

The Diplomat is created by showrunner and executive producer Debora Cahn. Since the show’s premiere in 2023, The Diplomat has garnered critical acclaim, with Russell receiving an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The Diplomat also received five Golden Globe nominations and SAG recognition for the ensemble.

The Diplomat Season 3 premieres this fall on Netflix. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season.
