Fans are betting on who will die in The Boys Season 5, and they believe that three characters in particular are at the top of the list. The trailers for the final season of The Boys, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 8, 2026, portend a bloody end to the superhero series. Karl Urban, who plays the antihero Butcher, has already said that “nobody is safe” and that viewers should expect main characters to die right from the start of the season. (If so, we’ll get to know right away during the season’s two-episode debut.) While the bets have been placed on three specific heroes and villains meeting their untimely demise, the deaths will likely be numerous and be spread throughout the entire season. We wouldn’t be surprised if at least half of the main characters perish by the time the final credits roll.
Who will likely die in The Boys final season?
Billy Butcher, Frenchie, and Homelander are projected to be the most likely characters to die in The Boys Season 5, according to a betting spread on Polymarket (as of March 23).
Betters think that Billy Butcher is the most likely one to meet his end at a whopping 91%, but Homelander isn’t far behind at 87% and Frenchie is nearly tied with the villain at 85%. They are far less sure about the other characters on the list. Next in the standings for who will die is Annie January, also known as Starlight, at 36% and Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy at 26%. Mother’s Milk, Kimiko Miyashiro, and Hughie Campbell are hovering at around the 15% mark, while Ryan Butcher is at the low end of 8%.
However, the bet doesn’t include any of the other supes on Homelander’s side, including The Deep, Sister Sage, Firecracker (more on them later) and possibly Ashley Barrett (or whatever is happening to her after she injected herself with Compound V). They are all high on the list of villains that many fans think should die but might not.
Out of the top candidates, Billy Butcher and Homelander are most likely to bite the bullet. In fact, it’s difficult to imagine an ending to The Boys where their ruthlessness doesn’t ultimately lead to their deaths. Some fans of the franchise are looking at the comics, where Butcher goes off his rocker and kills most of his former teammates, as a predictor for what will happen, but the show is so far off the rails from the original source that it’s hard to say if he will really become as evil as that. Still, Butcher will do whatever it takes to end Homelander (and he might as well die trying before the tumor/parasite gets him first), while Homelander has rejected pretty much any path to redemption as he doubles down on his Supe supremacist ideology. Both of their deaths are a given at this point, and it would be shocking if they somehow survive by the end of the story.
The more surprising top candidate is Frenchie, who has become a fan-favorite over the course of the show. However, “The Frenchman” has gone through something of a reversal by the end of Season 4, in which he is forced to face his past and atone for his mistakes. He develops a relationship with Colin Hauser but eventually admits to him that his actions led to the deaths of his family. After Colin beats and threatens him, Frenchie turns himself in and confesses his crimes, putting him on the righteous path of the hero. But that comes at the possible price of him wanting to be a martyr, in part so that he no longer has to suffer with his guilt. The second-to-last episode of the season is titled “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” so his death, if it were to happen, is looking like it won’t occur until the end of the show.
Some characters might escape death in other ways
Beyond that, many other characters are close to the chopping block as well. The Deep has built up so much bad karma over the last four seasons that his death would feel cathartic, though if he does, it should be in an unsympathetically hilarious way. A-Train has begun to doubt his actions and does regret killing Robin, which makes him different that his comic counterpart, but he’s been helping The Boys behind Homelander’s back, and that’s something that will likely seal his fate in the next season. Firecracker, who has become a zealot for Homelander and has said that she would lay down her life to protect him, has a strong likelihood of sacrificing herself for the cause.
On the flipside, Vought International’s other leader, Sister Sage, is in the line of fire too, but she has likely used her intelligence to concoct contingency after contingency for when The Boys arrives at her doorstep or if Homelander chooses to betray her (it sounds like something he would do).
That said, there are several ways that characters might be able to be knocked off the board without actually dying. Soldier Boy, who was placed in a cryogenic container, has already opened the can of worms of supes being tucked away in storage instead of being killed outright. Meanwhile, Marie Moreau, the lead protagonist in The Boys spinoff Gen V, has biokinetic powers that have the ability to heal major wounds and even resurrect people when she pushes her powers to the limit. So it’s possible that she might become the trump card for the resistance if any of The Boys dies.
