Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey's (Jenna Dewan) quest to expand their family through adoption might not have the happy ending they or the viewers expected. Following various meetings with social services in The Rookie Season 7, the couple learned that they were not suitable candidates for adoption. Their dangerous lives were not conducive to adopting a child, the social worker told them. The Rookie's showrunner, Alexi Hawley, confirmed to Screen Rant that the show was done with the arc. "I think it has [come to an end]. I think that's a road, sadly, with a lot of low points for them. But I think that's also a reality for lots of people. The part, [especially], where they couldn't have a kid biologically was very recognizable," he said. While Bailey and Nolan have dangerous lives, it doesn't apply to every first responder, something Hawley clarified, saying:
