The Superman TV show spin-off has received an exciting update.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Studios’ Superman was released in United States theaters in July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
A follow-up to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, is now in the works and dated for 2027; however, there are more spin-off projects that are also in the works. One of these is a show — previously believed to be titled DC Crime, though this was debunked by Gunn — about Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo, that comes from American Vandal creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault.
What is the update on the Superman spin-off show?
Speaking with The Direct, Perrault was asked if the series was going to be called Daily Planet or if there was a different title for the project that hasn’t been announced yet.
“It’s a different title that hasn’t been announced yet,” Perrault said. “We were tossing around some names last week. We really like, honestly, multiple of them, but all I can say is that it’s not called Untitled Jimmy Olsen Show.”
Speaking about what DC fans can expect from the series, Perrault said, “It’s comfortable territory for Tony Yacenda and I. We’ve worked in this crime mystery comedy for a very long time…There are definitely tools from that toolkit that we can apply here that I don’t think has been seen in the superhero genre thus far.”
Deadline previously reported that the first season of the show, which is produced by Warner Bros. Television, will be centered around Gorilla Grodd, an iconic Flash villain who was first created in 1959. Beyond that, plot details for the show remain under wraps at this time.
The Jimmy Olsen Superman spin-off series does not yet have a release date from HBO Max.
