Controversial Superman star Dean Cain decided to rudely insult Milly Alcock, and Supergirl fans aren’t having it. The Twitter exchange comes just a few weeks before Supergirl flies in United States theaters from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Cain played Clark Kent/Superman in the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman TV show that ran from 1993 to 1997. Having never quite mastered the art of kindness or human decency that his TV counterpart is known for, Cain has repeatedly made headlines in the past for his political views; for example, some of his comments about James Gunn’s Superman movie being “woke” went viral around the time of the film’s release.
What did Dean Cain say about Supergirl?
On Twitter, Cain needlessly responded to an image comparing Alcock’s Supergirl to Cha-Ka from Land of the Lost. “Dang it… I laughed,” Cain said with an accompanying emoji.
Supergirl and DCU fans quickly fired back and called Cain out on his behavior. Some of the comments were nicer than others (of course, there’s no need to divulge into name-calling from either side), but everyone generally agreed that a former Superman actor and self-proclaimed Christian doesn’t need to be tearing down an up-and-coming star in this fashion.
Supergirl arrives in theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, David Corenswet as Superman, and Jason Momoa as Lobo, among others.
“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice,” the synopsis for the film reads.
Gunn and Peter Safran produce the film, which is based on DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars P. Winther serve as executive producers.
