Strictly Come Dancing bosses have responded to claims that Amber Davies was twice turned down for the show for being too experienced a dancer, before becoming a late addition to this year’s series.

Last week, it was revealed that Amber would be joining the current season of Strictly as a last-minute replacement for fellow Love Island winner Dani Dyer, who was forced to withdraw early due to injury.

At the time, it was quickly noted by many fans that the Strictly newcomer was already no stranger to dancing, thanks to her work on the West End as well as on the line-up of last year’s Dancing On Ice.

On Sunday, the Daily Mail even claimed that Amber had entered “talks” with Strictly twice before, only to be rejected due to her dance background, citing an “insider” who claimed she was “too experienced”.

However, a spokesperson for the show has since told The Telegraph: “The current Strictly team have no record of this ever taking place.”

Amber and her professional partner Nikita Kuzmin had only around 24 hours to put their first routine together before Saturday night’s live show, where they performed a Waltz to a reimagined version of Adele’s When We Were Young.

The duo impressed the judges, coming joint third on the leaderboard with 27 points out of a possible 40.

While frontrunner Lewis Cope landed at second place with 28 points, it was former Lioness Karen Carney who wound up stealing the show, and coming out on top thanks to her energetic Jive routine.

Also on 27 points was fellow footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbeck, who delivered a fast-paced Quickstep to The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday evening at 6.20pm on BBC One, with one pairing due to become the first to be sent home in the following night’s results show.
