Steven Spielberg has been one of the kings of big-screen science-fiction movies for several generations, spending years turning ambitious ideas into major cinematic events, from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to Ready Player One. His return to the genre earlier this year was eagerly awaited, particularly with the director revisiting the subject of extraterrestrial life nearly 50 years after Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The movie generated plenty of conversation when it arrived in theaters, with critics divided over its blend of conspiracy thriller, sci-fi and human drama.
