2026 has been a bonkers year for Star Wars fans between the releases of Maul — Shadow Lord and The Mandalorian and Grogu. The former finished its first season as the highest-rated project in franchise history with a near-perfect 99% from critics on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. The show has already been renewed for Season 2, and while not officially confirmed, it’s heavily speculated that it will return to streaming before the end of 2027. The Mandalorian and Grogu didn’t receive the same warm reception upon its arrival in theaters, though, and it finished its box office run as the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history. The film has gone on to become one of the most-watched movies of the month on Disney Plus in an extremely successful streaming debut.
