Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits two new box office milestones

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to shatter box office records as the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster reaches two major financial milestones. The Tom Holland-led film will pass $700 million at the domestic box office on Wednesday, after only three weeks in theaters, according to Deadline. As a result, the achievement makes it the fourth MCU installment to gross $700 million or more domestically.

Notably, Avengers: Endgame earned $858.3 million domestically in 2019, while Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $814.8 million in 2021. Black Panther’s $700.4 million domestic total from 2018 appears likely to fall next.

Furthermore, tracking suggests the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film could become the first movie in history to cross $1 billion domestically, potentially surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $936.6 million record.

Meanwhile, Brand New Day crossed $1 billion at the international box office in just 12 days, the second-fastest film to reach that mark after Avengers: Endgame. The film’s worldwide total currently sits at $1.67 billion, with $654.3 million domestic and $1.013 billion overseas. Additionally, Brand New Day has already become the biggest Hollywood release ever in India with $52.8 million and the top film of all time in Brazil and Spain.

The Phase 6 entry also stands as the second most successful project of The Multiverse Saga behind Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $1.92 billion. Deadpool & Wolverine holds third place with $1.33 billion worldwide. Based on current momentum, Brand New Day should easily cross $2 billion globally by this weekend.

Beyond the MCU, Holland’s summer dominance extends further, as he also stars in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which has grossed $1.1 billion worldwide. Brand New Day holds a 90% Rotten Tomatoes critics score and a 98% audience score. The film continues playing in theaters worldwide across 67 markets on over 72,800 screens.
