‘Sorry’: The Boys Creator Doesn’t Regret Season 5 Finale Despite Backlash

The Boys creator Eric Kripke has finally shared his opinion regarding the massive fan backlash on the internet to the divisive Season 5 finale. In a recent discussion, the veteran producer apologized to anyone who felt let down by his show’s finale, but admitted that he does not regret the ending for a simple reason.

The Supernatural creator noted that he is aware of the online outburst against The Boys’ concluding chapter. However, instead of taking the criticism in a negative way, he believes that it simply highlights how “passionate” viewers are about his show.

“I’m not healthy in that I’m like, ‘Oh, I never look.’ I see it all,” Eric Kripke remarked while speaking with TVLine. “Obviously, there are a lot of unhappy people online, but there are two things I would say: First, I’m just glad people are passionate, legitimately. My job is to make people passionate about the work I put out. If they’re arguing about it and hating it and fighting, that’s all passion, man. You’re watching, and that’s all good. My job is to get an emotional reaction, not necessarily to dictate what that emotional reaction is.”

Reiterating that “the online world is not the real world,” Eric Kripke revealed that he has no qualms about The Boys Season 5 finale, since it was exactly what he wanted to show on camera.

“We have way north of 60 million viewers, so that makes the online storm, which feels very all-encompassing, actually a fraction of a single percentage point,” the veteran TV writer continued. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, of course, and I’m sorry if I disappointed you, but it was the story I wanted to tell. You just have to put it into perspective of it being a reasonably small, vocal audience when the vast majority seem to be happily tuning in.”

Notably, The Boys concluded its five-season run last month, with Season 5 Episode 8 serving as the final entry in the fan-favorite Prime Video series.
