AS the days grow longer and warmer, refresh your home with the scent of spring.
You don’t need expensive candles or diffusers to capture the season — just a few simple ingredients and these tricks.

POT LUCK: Create an aromatic pot pourri on the hob by combining citrus slices with spring herbs such as mint or rosemary.
Add a cinnamon stick or vanilla pod to give your concoction some warmth, put in a pan in an inch or so of water and let it simmer away for a couple of hours. It will give your home a lovely aroma.
FRESH FABRIC: This is a quick and easy trick, just mix a few drops of your favourite essential oils with water in a spray bottle for an instant fabric refresher.
Lightly mist over sofas, curtains and bedding to banish stale odours.
For the best result, choose uplifting spring scents such as lemon, lavender or geranium.
SHAKE AND VAC: Sprinkle a homemade blend of baking soda and dried flower petals — collect some from the garden and dry them — over carpets before vacuuming.
The baking soda neutralises odours and the petals leave a delicate fragrance.
LIVING SCENTS: You can go back to nature and incorporate naturally fragrant plants including hyacinths, freesias or jasmine into your living space.
Position them near sunny windows where their perfume can spread. Place eucalyptus stems in bathrooms where the steam will amplify their fresh scent.
SKIRT OVER IT: Use a multipurpose fragranced cleaner such as the Astonish Morning Dew Pet Fresh disinfectant cleaner (Asda, 98p).
Add a capful to a bucket or washing up bowl filled with water. Then soak a microfibre cloth in the water and wring out.
Use the cloth to wipe over skirting boards, radiators, bathroom cupboards and kitchen cabinets.
Not only will it kill bacteria and leave your home sparkling, it will also leave an incredible fresh scent throughout your house.
