The Simu Liu-starred sitcom series, which started back in October 2016, has arrived on Peacock today, August 10. The fan-favorite Canadian TV show was previously streaming on Netflix for five years before it departed the platform in June 2026.

In Kim’s Convenience, Simu Liu portrays the well-celebrated character of Jung Kim. Liu has a strong character arc as he is introduced as a dropout and later matures into a responsible family member. The actor, however, believed that the show lacked Asian voices and perspectives at the creators’ desk.

According to Business Insider, Liu previously shared in a Facebook post, “I can appreciate that the show is still a hit and is enjoyed by many people, but I remain fixated on the missed opportunities to show Asian characters with real depth and the ability to grow and evolve.”He added, “Aside from Ins [Choi], there were no other Korean voices in the room. And personally, I do not think he did enough to be a champion for those voices (including ours).”

Rated 8.2 on IMDb, Kim’s Convenience narrates the story of a Korean-Canadian family who run a convenience store in Toronto. The CBC show had to end abruptly in April 2021 as its creators, Kevin White and Ins Choi, left to focus on other projects. This also led the producers behind the show to back off from continuing.

What has Simu Liu been up to since Kim’s Convenience ended?

Simu Liu voiced his disappointment about the abrupt ending of the 5-season show in 2021. Meanwhile, in 2019, Liu became a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He was announced as the titular lead for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at the 2019 Comic-Con. It hit the theaters on September 3, 2021.

The superhero movie received a rating of 92% and 98% in the Tomatometer and Popcornmeter, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, director Destin Daniel Cretton keeps sharing hints at the development of the sequel.

Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings is currently streaming on Disney+. Further, Liu will return as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for its theatrical release in December 2026.
