The Ottawa Senators‘ thin blue line has taken another hit.

Thomas Chabot exited Monday’s game against the New York Rangers after he was slashed by J.T. Miller at the end of the first period. He immediately grabbed his right arm in pain as he skated to the bench and did not return for the second period.

Then, in the second, Lassi Thomson left the game with a lower-body injury.

Both players were ruled out for the game in the second intermission.

Speaking after the 2-1 win, head coach Travis Green announced that both players would “be out for a while.”

The Senators already are missing defencemen Jake Sanderson, Nick Jensen and Dennis Gilbert, so more injuries on the back end would be a tough blow for a Senators team trying to climb back into a playoff spot. Ottawa entered the night four points behind the New York Islanders for the second and final wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference.

Chabot, picked 18th overall by Ottawa in 2015, has seven goals and 24 assists in 55 games this season.

He missed 15 games earlier this season with an upper-body injury.

Thomson was playing in his first NHL game since he played two games in November of 2022. A first-round pick in 2019, Thomson has 25 points in 55 AHL games this season.

The Senators will travel to Detroit for a key game in the playoff race Tuesday. Green said two players will come up from the AHL for that game.
