The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated June 22. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.

A traumatised Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has left the Emmerdale village.

The beloved character has been spiralling in the aftermath of Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) raping her.

After she was attacked, Charity went to the police station and reported the crime. She was told that Caitlin would be arrested and questioned and while this did happen, the surgeon was released shortly after due to lack of evidence, and her claiming the sex she had with Charity was consensual.

On top of keeping this secret, Charity also hasn’t told anyone about Doctor Todd blackmailing her, a move that only came after she discovered that baby Leyla is actually her and Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) child.

Charity’s loved ones have now picked up on her change in behaviour, but are under the impression she is experiencing post-natal depression. This has made Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) feel awful, as she believes she is the reason her Gran is feeling so low.

Up Next

Charity found Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) in today’s episode and the two of them bonded over their shared struggles. She pushed Cain to talk to Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) about the recent development with his cancer, and for once he actually listened and did exactly that.

If only Charity heard her own words though.

Unable to open up to anyone, Charity later clashed with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). He was really trying to help, but making his wife feel smothered at the same time.

Charity got into her car and sat alone, wondering what to do next. Consumed with negative emotion, she screamed in an attempt to let some of it out, and then sped out of the village.

In tomorrow’s episode, we will see Charity by herself near a lake. As the weight of her secrets become too much for her to handle, Charity will ignore calls from Mackenzie, who eventually decides to call the police about his partner’s disappearance.
