With the massive shifts that the action genre has seen in the last decade, it's remarkable that a handful of stars are still able to command a certain degree of respect. Jason Statham, Liam Neeson, and Gerard Butler are among the very few stars who can still get action movies greenlit on the strength of their names. However, streaming has disrupted the market considerably. Most action hits these days land directly on streaming platforms, and the audiences that would come out in large numbers to theaters tend to stay at home. Alan Ritchson, for instance, has emerged as a bona fide streaming industry star thanks to hits such as Prime Video's Reacherand Netflix's War Machine. However, movies headlined by actors who've experienced box-office success in their careers still do extremely well at home, often giving competition to direct-to-streaming titles.
