Sadie makes a colossal mistake in Emmerdale that could ruin everything for her and Robert

Emmerdale’s Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) should forget about any kind of career in espionage or detective work.

She’s terrible at lying, not very good at solving puzzles, awful at covering her tracks, and as this week’s episodes show, she cannot hold her drink, leading to a colossal mistake that could ruin her entire cover.

Sadie’s been trying to find dead Jimmy King’s (Nick Miles) £150,000 that he’s hidden away, and is using the ruse that she and Jimmy had been in a relationship to get close to Nicola (Nicola Wheeler), and hopefully the money.

But if Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) could figure out her plans that fast, it’s only a matter of time before someone else cottons on.

Nicola has already come close, almost listening to Jimmy’s voice notes that would exonerate him, but pure luck saved Sadie from discovery. She’s on ice as thin as her smile.

Sadie is driven by the blind need to find that money. Having tried Nicola’s house, and traipsed round Jimmy’s favourite place Whitby, Sadie decides the cash must be at the depot. Another notch against her detective skills – the Depot might have been a good place to start.

Sadie flexes her fibbing ability and pretends to be interested in Ruby Miligan’s (Beth Cordingly) wine business to get her foot in the door. This works because Ruby’s ego always enjoys a massage, even if Sadie’s interest is hard to believe.

It works, and the two women enjoy some tasting together.

In a moment where Ruby becomes distracted, Sadie jumps at the chance to do some rooting around, but she’s caught red handed by Caleb (William Ash).

She’s forced to confess she’s searching for the money but lies she plans to give it to Nicola. Caleb’s no fool, but he’s fooled by this.

Sadie goes back to sampling wine with Ruby, and as the pair get tiddly, Sadie comes dangerously close to letting slip her secret when she tells Ruby about a fling with Federico in New York last Christmas before passing out.

Ruby can handle her drink and doesn’t forget a word. The next day, she grills Sadie on what she meant.

At this point, either Sadie is a pro at covering her tracts, or everyone around her is just insanely gullible, as she manages to sidestep that landmine with Ruby suitably satisfied by her fresh lies, and later warns Robert to watch himself and not get himself into a pickle like she did.

He tells her it’s time to bow out, it’s getting to risky, but Sadie won’t hear it. Her cocky confidence could be her undoing. Will she be the first to find the money, or will she finally get caught out?
