Rumored DCU Actor Brandon Sklenar Goes Full Cowboy in New Western Movie’s First Look

Brandon Sklenar takes on a cowboy role for his next film. The actor plays a former rodeo rider on a dangerous mission, drawing on his experience of working with horses.

PEOPLE has revealed an exclusive first look at Sklenar in The Rescue. The film follows Jamie Lee Betts, a former rodeo cowboy who searches for his daughter after kidnappers take her for ransom. Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the film also stars Hassie Harrison, Josh Duhamel, Josh Lucas, Austin Amelio, and Tim Blake Nelson. The Rescue will arrive in theaters on January 29, 2027.

Sklenar’s character spends much of his journey outdoors and alongside his animals. The actor revealed that roughly 90% of the film was shot outdoors. He worked closely with both a horse and a dog during production, which became an important part of his experience.

The role also builds on Sklenar’s previous experience with horses. He learned to ride as a child and later attended Taylor Sheridan’s cowboy camp while filming 1923. The actor even competed in a cattle-cutting competition with Sheridan and other actors from his shows. However, insurance restrictions prevented him from riding a bucking horse or bull for The Rescue.
