2025 was a relatively quiet year for Ridley Scott, who only directed a single episode of the Apple TV crime thriller show, Dope Thief, starring Wagner Moura opposite Brian Tyree Henry. It was confirmed earlier this year that Apple TV was not moving forward with a second season of the show. Best known for his work in the sci-fi world, Scott has been on hiatus from the genre in recent years as he focused on historical epics like Gladiator II (starring Denzel Washington) and Napoleon (starring Joaquin Phoenix). He has been heavily involved as a producer through his Scott Free banner on other sci-fi projects like Alien: Earth, though, which is tied directly into the Alien franchise he started all the way back in 1979. Another franchise started by Scott was Blade Runner, which began in the 1980s with the Harrison Ford-led cyberpunk sci-fi thriller.
