A former MVP is set to become available in free agency.
Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook declined his player option and will hit the open market come June 30, NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Friday.
Westbrook, 36, enjoyed a bounceback season with the Nuggets, averaging 13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 75 games, mostly off the bench.
The nine-time all-star has traversed the NBA since opening his career with 11 seasons in Oklahoma City, bouncing from Houston to Washington to the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers before arriving in Denver this season.
Westbrook, who signed a two-year minimum contract with the Nuggets last off-season, was due to make $3.47 million if he picked up his option.
The 2016-17 MVP helped the Nuggets reach Game 7 of the second round, where they lost to the eventual Western Conference champion Thunder.
In May, Westbrook said he was undergoing surgery to fix two breaks in his right hand.
