The domestic box office saw an unlikely savior this weekend in the form of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, which shattered expectations to earn $70 million in its first three days of release and claimed the top spot – the biggest-ever debut for an anime title. The previous record was held by its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which made $21 million in its domestic debut and grossed over $500 million at the worldwide box office. Infinity Castle had already grossed over $300 million internationally prior to its domestic debut this week, and is on track to become the biggest anime hit in global box office history.
