The Toronto Raptors could be getting a key piece back in the coming days.

Wing RJ Barrett is scheduled to begin return to play activities this week as he continues to progress from a right knee sprain, the team announced Monday.

He’ll be out for Monday’s game against the Miami Heat, but his status for games on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks and Saturday against the Boston Celtics remains uncertain.

Barrett has missed the Raptors’ last nine games since suffering the knee injury against the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 23. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection last week.

The Raptors have struggled since Barrett went down, losing six of nine, including their last four in a row.

The Mississauga, Ont., native was enjoying a strong start to his season before being sidelined with averages of 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 30.9 minutes in 17 games.

He scored at least 20 points 10 times while firing at a 35.6 per cent rate from beyond the arc.
