Before Taylor Sheridan came along and revitalized the genre in television and film, the only time a Western would work was if it was in the hands of Quentin Tarantino or the Coen brothers; this had happened for at least a couple of decades. In fact, Tarantino's biggest blockbuster remains his hyper-violent Western Django Unchained, which grossed nearly $450 million at the worldwide box office. These numbers would be unthinkable in this day and age. This past weekend, Django Unchained was overtaken at the box office by Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, the eighth and purportedly final chapter in the long-running action franchise headlined by Tom Cruise.
