Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are bringing a new war story to Netflix as part of their Archewell slate. The couple is developing a feature film based on the Afghan war memoir, which follows a British Army unit under siege in 2006. The project adds another adaptation to their growing production list.

The film is based on No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege and centers on British Major Adam Jowett leading Easy Company during the brutal battle at Musa Qala in Afghanistan back in July 2006. The squad, made up of Parachute Regiment troops and Royal Irish Rangers, was pinned down while fighting nonstop under intense enemy fire.
This war drama is also stacking up major talent behind the scenes. Matt Charman, best known for earning an Oscar nomination for Bridge of Spies, has been tapped to pen the screenplay for the adaptation.
The original book hit shelves in 2019 through Pan Macmillan and quickly found a loyal audience among military-history readers. Veteran war journalist Martin Bell praised the memoir as a “vivid” and “pulsating” retelling of the Musa Qala battle, even calling it the modern-day Rorke’s Drift. The book has also scored a strong 4.6 out of 5 rating on Amazon.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are backing the project through Archewell Productions, alongside scripted-content executive Tracy Ryerson. Harry also brings firsthand military insight to the table after serving two tours in Afghanistan during his years in the British Army (via Variety).
Things have not exactly been smooth sailing for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the streaming world lately. Back in March, Variety reported that the pair reportedly hit a rough patch with Netflix after several of their projects struggled to make major waves.
That slowdown reportedly led to a shake-up in their partnership, with Archewell Productions now operating under a first-look arrangement instead of the broader overall deal they previously had. Even so, the company still has fresh projects in the making, including adaptations of Jasmine Guillory’s The Wedding Date and Carley Fortune’s Meet Me at the Lake.
