Recently, prequel TV series have become one of the smartest ways for studios to squeeze new life out of old IP. Alien: Earth took place two years before the original 1979 Alien film, and finally brought the Xenomorph to Earth within the mainline canon. IT: Welcome to Derry served as a prequel to the IT movies, focusing on Pennywise's (Bill Skarsgård) 1962 awakening and feeding cycle. And both shows ended up among the most talked-about series of 2025.
